Lifelong learner · builder · perpetual beginner

Sora Kalden

I'm a compulsive learner. I find something I'm bad at — a language, a melody, a dice game, a business — dig up the honest, fastest way to get a little less bad at it, and build or write whatever falls out. Most of it I'm still mid at. That gap, slowly closing, is the most interesting thing I know.

What I'm in the middle of

Three things I'm figuring out right now.

From three fields that have no business being next to each other. None of them are finished — that's sort of the whole point. Each has its own story if you want it.

01 An app · the lead

Flua

I watched anime for ten years and learned five words. Then I taught myself Japanese to A1 in about twenty focused hours — once I'd found the method and stopped using it wrong. Everyone I showed it to bounced off the setup, so I spent a year building the version with no setup. It's done; I'm the paperwork standing between it and launch.

02 Another app

Weave

A weight tracker built so the graph does the nagging. My mom lost 17 lbs with it — still the proudest a piece of my code has ever made me. the story →

03 A game · in design

A dice roguelike

Balatro convinced me a deckbuilder could be a perfect object. So now I'm nerd-sniped into finding out what that same magic does to dice. Very much in the messy, figuring-it-out stage. what I'm chasing →

The range

A pile of rabbit holes, sorted into shelves.

Everything I've gotten obsessed enough with to make something. Not eight tidy personalities — just the actual stuff, by category. Each thing has its own page; most of them link to three more.

01 Apps & tools

Small, honest software — the kind I'd actually want to use.

02 Games

Take a system apart, find the fun, build it back better.

03 Worlds & writing

I've been building worlds since before I could finish them.

04 Words & voice

Rebuilding the half of myself I used to outsource — badly, on purpose, in public.

05 The eye

One camera, one prime, and a long argument with the color wheel.

06 Learning itself

The meta-skill under all of it — and the part I find most interesting.

The writing

Pull a thread, fall down the hole.

Stories, opinions, and things I've figured out — each one links to two more. Start anywhere. The honest ones with numbers in the title are the most fun.

Rabbit holes I haven't gone down yet

Things I haven't learned how to make.

  • Write a TV show — I've watched thousands of hours of film and anime, only the best, mostly to take apart why they work.
  • Finish the manga — the "next Death Note or GoT": a complex plot that's somehow easy to follow.
  • Make Westworld real, as a game you can actually live inside.
  • Open a café that's a third place for serious makers — writers, artists, builders, all in one room.
  • Find the talented, curious people I'd do all of the above with.

Let's learn something together

I'm looking for people who are excellent at something and curious about everything.

Collaborators, co-conspirators, fellow rabbit-holers. If any of these threads is also yours — or you just want to compare obsessions — say hi. The best things in my life started as a five-hour first conversation with a stranger.
