What players say

At the table

Godbound tables describe a game about demigod heroes who reshape the world through Words and Gifts. Reports split. Some GMs ran long, happy sandbox campaigns, and others dropped it after a one-shot or a few sessions. Combat and group cohesion come up most often as sticking points.

Godbound: A game with very high demands of GM and group cohesion

Firsthand reports are split. Several GMs ran Godbound as a thematic, non-dungeon sandbox and report great or trouble-free campaigns. The OP and others report incompatible player visions, a combat system that doesn't feel godlike, and balance problems, and one group quit after trying it. 12 firsthand · 32 comments

Your most sincere opinions about GodBound

People who played Godbound like the premise and the freedom to reshape the world. Many say combat is either trivial or dangerous in a way that doesn't feel godlike, and that the game is hard to GM. Several dropped it after a one-shot or a few sessions, and a few ran good low-combat, world-changing play. 9 firsthand · 42 comments

Godbound - A brief review

Players who ran Godbound describe a fun, flavorful game of divine heroes that is easy to learn and run in a custom or modern setting. Their problems are combat and balance. Perfect defenses and action-economy multipliers make god-vs-god fights tepid, some Words are far stronger than others, and the sheet and bestiary undercut the godly fantasy. All of this was fixable with house adaptations. 5 firsthand · 16 comments

Godbound vs Exalted Essence vs Gods of the Fall vs ???

The few people who say they ran or played Godbound describe a game that is great for improvising and shaping the world through its Words and miracles. They say its OSR/old-D&D mechanics feel clunky, especially in combat. The thread mostly compares three games for a new campaign, so firsthand Godbound detail is thin and several pro-Godbound comments are secondhand praise. 5 firsthand · 26 comments

I'm having a terrible time with Godbound

The only firsthand report is the original poster, who has played a Godbound campaign for months. They enjoy their character and table but are infuriated by the system's inverse-AC math, vague gift wording and setting-driven design. The commenters mostly debate inverse AC and sandbox terminology without describing their own play. 1 firsthand · 18 comments
